Picking defaults in SmartTurn

Picking is the process of selecting shipment items from inventory. Picking defaults only come into play when you are shipping from a sales order and ship it with no changes to the SmartTurn default pick order. In this case, SmartTurn applies default pick priorities behind the scenes to identify items for a shipment.

You can alter the SmartTurn default pick order in several ways. You can create your own preferred pick policies that replace the SmartTurn default pick order in some instances (e.g. for shipments from a particular warehouse). You can also override the current pick policy either for the entire shipment or for particular items. See Managing preferred pick policies and Changes to the default pick order.

Default pick priorities for shipping without using License number as a criterion:

  1. First, SmartTurn chooses unlicensed inventory from the default pick location (as set in the Warehouses tab on the item master).
  2. Then, if there is no unlicensed quantity or only partial unlicensed quantity in the default pick location, SmartTurn then looks for additional quantity from eligible licensed items in the default location.

What makes a licensed item eligible for picking? It does not have either an Exclusive type hold on it, or a Hold type hold on it. .

  3. Then, if there is no licensed quantity or only partial licensed quantity in the default pick location, SmartTurn begins looking for additional unlicensed quantity in other locations.
  4. SmartTurn then surveys all locations to locate both licensed and unlicensed quantities in non-default pick locations. It evaluates which of those locations has the most quantity (the aggregate of licensed and unlicensed) to fill out the shipment, and chooses quantity from it first. SmartTurn repeats this process until there is no more quantity.

When picking defaults are invoked, SmartTurn adds licensed quantities to shipments even if you are picking by inventory, rather than by license number.

Default pick priorities for shipping by License number:

  1. First, SmartTurn chooses from locations that have licensed quantities of the shipment item in the default pick location (as set in the Warehouses tab on the item master).

What makes a licensed item eligible for picking? It does not have either an Exclusive type hold on it, or a Hold type hold on it. .

  2. Then, if there is no licensed quantity or only partial quantity in the default pick location, SmartTurn then looks for additional licensed quantity in other locations.
  3. If SmartTurn locates a licensed quantity in more than one non-default pick location, it evaluates which of those locations has the most licensed quantity to fill out the shipment, and chooses quantity from it first. This process is repeated until there is no more licensed quantity to choose from.

When shipping by License number, by default, SmartTurn never picks unlicensed quantities for shipments. You can override any picking default by changing pick details.

Default pick priorities for shipping by Policy:

  • SmartTurn chooses items in the order they appear in the inventory manager that the policy is based on.
