You can create custom fields for your inbound, outbound, or inventory business processes. On bills of lading, you have access to both the outbound custom fields and inventory (line item) custom fields. Working with outbound custom fields on bills of lading:
Known issue: The Business Process Details diagram used in the custom field definition is based on the assumption that there is at most one sales order for each fulfillment document. In the case of shipments, this is true. However, for bills of lading, there can be many sales orders that are all being (fully or partially) fulfilled by this bill of lading. There is currently no way to specify custom field definitions in this scenario. Therefore, unlike other uses of Working with inventory (line item) custom fields on bills of lading:
