Working with custom fields and bills of lading

Custom fields allow you to customize SmartTurn for business processes that are unique to your operation. You can create custom fields for your inbound, outbound, or inventory business processes.

On bills of lading, you have access to both the outbound custom fields and inventory (line item) custom fields.

Working with outbound custom fields on bills of lading:

The custom fields with Business Process of Outbound appear in the header of the bill of lading, on the Custom tab, if you customize the page.
The Outbound custom fields are editable until the bill of lading Status is Committed, either through the user interface (see Editing bills of lading) or through the web services interface (see Working with integrations and bills of lading and Using SmartTurn with Web Services).
The default value for the Outbound custom fields on the bill of lading is always null.

Known issue: The Business Process Details diagram used in the custom field definition is based on the assumption that there is at most one sales order for each fulfillment document. In the case of shipments, this is true. However, for bills of lading, there can be many sales orders that are all being (fully or partially) fulfilled by this bill of lading. There is currently no way to specify custom field definitions in this scenario. Therefore, unlike other uses of Outbound custom fields, the Outbound custom fields on the bill of lading are not automatically populated based on the Business Process Details diagram. Instead, the custom fields are always null, and editable.

Working with inventory (line item) custom fields on bills of lading:

The custom fields with Business Process of Inventory appear in the Pack Items table on the bill of lading, if you customize the page.
In the Demand View of the Pack Items table, the Inventory custom fields are read only. The values are from the sales order line item.
In the Fulfillment View of the Pack Items table, the Inventory custom fields are read only. The values are from the inventory item.
In the Pack View of the Pack Items table, the Inventory custom fields are editable. The default values are always null.
